IT Auditors ensure that systems are secure and adequate for the purposes required. An IT Auditor may also be responsible for (statutory) controls, depending on the nature of the business in question.
IT Auditors are specialist IT professionals who work within a company or organisation to ensure that IT systems and processes are secure, effective and efficient. IT Auditors are responsible for making sure that employees are properly following processes and controls and that systems are being used to optimum effect.
In the financial sector, IT Auditors check that transactions are being carried out in accordance with internal and external rules and regulations and that IT systems perform these transactions effectively.
IT Auditors must ensure that a company's IT systems and processes are secure and adhere to statutory guidelines, rules and regulations. The increasing importance and prominence of information security places an added emphasis on IT audit.
Typical duties include:
Conducting information systems reviews and advising on risk and improvements.
Evaluating operational controls to ensure compliance with legal obligations.

Writing and reviewing control documentation.
Ensuring that information security is robust at all times.
Qualifications
Some IT Auditors are qualified financial professionals who have experience of financial audit. IT Auditors are also often required to be Certified Information Security Auditors (CISA).
