Tax Accountants are qualified financial professionals who provide specialist services to businesses, organisations or individuals wishing to comply with statutory taxation regulations and to manage liabilities efficiently.
In larger organisations, Tax Accountants may work as part of a Tax team with responsibility for one specific area of taxation. In smaller organisations, the Tax Accountant will have overall responsibility for all matters relating to tax.
Typical duties include:
Preparing corporate tax computations.
Preparing tax calculations for reporting purposes.
Preparing and completing tax returns.
Liaison with HMRC.
Managing payments, offsets and refunds of corporation tax.
Supplying advice on ad hoc tax matters.
Ensuring tax compliance.
Tax Accountants must enjoy working in a variety of locations and with a variety of colleagues, including many non financial managers. Tax Accountants often work out of the office with clients - both individual and corporate - and must be comfortable working to (statutory) deadlines.
Qualifications
Tax Accountants are usually part or fully qualified accountants, having studied with one of the major accounting institutions. They may also have gained specialist taxation qualifications from bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) or the Association of Tax Technicians (ATT).
