Investment Managers are experienced investment specialists who look after the investments for large investment funds on behalf of individual and large institutional investors. Investment Managers make a range of investment decisions whilst maintaining diverse portfolios to mitigate risk and maximise returns. Many investment funds focus on particular areas - for example Emerging Markets - and as such Investment Managers are experts in these sectors.
Investment management is a high profile and prestigious profession. On a daily basis, Investment Managers face the responsibilities and stresses associated with managing vast sums of money on behalf of clients.
Investment management involves many different roles and responsibilities. Typical duties include:
Monitoring markets and current events - keeping on top of anything that might influence the value of investments.
Client meetings.
Writing reports and issuing advice to clients.
Working with analysts and researchers and using their analysis and research to make investment decisions.
Meeting investment banks and financial experts in order to maintain an expert knowledge of markets, market trends and products.
Deciding on investments and directing transactions.
Qualifications
Senior Investment Managers have many years of experience working in the financial markets. Junior roles require qualifications such as the IMC and candidates can work towards becoming Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA). Entry level roles require an excellent academic record up to (and sometimes beyond) undergraduate level.
