We have an exciting opportunity for a Mortgage Underwriter on a 6 month FTC, to join our Retail Underwriting team at Just.

As a Mortgage Underwriter, you will making lending decisions based on holistic underwriting of properties and other risks associated with Lifetime Mortgages, reviewing in line with Lending Policy and best practice. You will ensure that that Lifetime Mortgages are originated within risk and that you respond to queries on property acceptability in line with the Lending policy

Key Responsibilities:

• Make lending decisions based on your review of valuation reports, flood risks, credit risks and other associated underwriting risks associated with lifetime mortgages.

• Manage post valuation queries and requests for further information to satisfy yourself on the acceptability of certain properties and risks.

• Contributing towards the development of processes and sharing best practice within the team.

• Maintaining relationships with operational teams, Financial Intermediaries, Valuers and legal representatives to raise and respond to queries in relation to the underwriting of lifetime mortgages.

• To undertake any project activity related to the development of the Lifetime mortgage procedures and policies as required.

• Ensuring adherence to Company AML, Financial Crime and KYC policies

Skills and Experience:

• GCSE qualifications, or equivalent, including Maths and English (A-C Grades) as a minimum

• Proven mortgage underwriting experience or similar role

• Ability to make sound discretionary lending decisions within an agreed risk appetite and Lending Policy.

• Ability to coherently and accurate summarise information regarding lending and property issues and make risk based recommendations or decisions.

• Ability to mentor, train and coach others in technical areas.

• Ability to communicate with third parties on the phone and via e-mail.
