Within the Fexco Group, the UK Retail Foreign Exchange (RFX) Division is one of the UK's largest independent providers of foreign exchange services. CEC Ltd delivers accessible, customer-focused travel money services through a network of 64 own retail locations and 170 agents across the UK. Our services are delivered under several trusted retail brands, including the well-known No1 Currency, which is recognised for its strong presence and reputation in the travel money market.

In February 2026 RFX will be integrating the Sainsburys Travel Money Business into its network, allowing many more customers to benefit from the great rates and fantastic service that we offer.

We are now seeking a Payroll Officer to join us on a full-time, permanent basis. This role is based in our London Hammersmith office 3 days per week with the option to work from home 2 days per week.

Job Purpose

The Payroll Officer is responsible for ensuring the smooth, accurate and compliant operation across a high-volume retail workforce. The role works closely with the outsourced payroll provider to process a 4-weekly payroll for both salaried and hourly-paid employees, ensuring all variable pay components are captured and processed correctly. The Payroll Officer acts as a key link between HR, Finance, and the payroll provider, ensuring compliance with UK payroll legislation and maintaining absolute accuracy in all pay-related data.

Main Responsibilities
  • Act as the main point of contact between the organisation and the outsourced payroll provider.
  • Manage all payroll input data, including variable pay elements.
  • Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation (PAYE, NMW, pensions)
  • Review draft payroll reports, exception files and final outputs to ensure accuracy ahead of sign-off.
  • Monitor service levels and ensure the provider meets agreed timelines and quality standards.
  • Respond to colleague queries regarding pay slips, tax codes and deductions
  • Provide training to store colleagues on payroll cut-off dates, timesheet processes, and pay entitlements.
  • Maintain data integrity across HRIS and time & attendance systems
  • Conduct regular checks for timesheet anomalies, duplicated hours, attendance gaps or NMW risks.
  • Assist with internal and external payroll audits, financial reporting and statutory returns.
  • Produce payroll-related reports for HR and Finance as required.
Qualifications / Experience Required

Essential Experience

  • Strong experience coordinating or administering UK payroll, ideally within a retail or hospitality environment.
  • Sound understanding of UK payroll legislation including PAYE, NI, NMW/NLW, pensions and statutory leave/pay.
  • Experience using HRIS and T&A systems; experience with HiBob or UKG is beneficial.
  • Proven experience working with outsourced payroll providers or processing partners.
  • Strong numerical ability and confidence reviewing large volumes of data.

Desirable

  • Payroll qualifications such as CIPP or equivalent.
  • Experience managing 4-weekly payroll cycles.
  • Experience supporting payroll audits or compliance checks.

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet strict cut-off deadlines.
  • Confident operating in a fast-paced, high-volume retail environment.

  • Proactive approach to identifying issues, resolving anomalies and preventing errors.
  • Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates strong professional integrity.
  • Clear communicator able to liaise effectively with HR, Finance, store teams and external partners.
