In this exciting role, you'll be managing the full payroll process from start to finish, working independently with the support of a dedicated team member during peak times. Not only will you be handling essential payroll functions, but you'll also play a key part in continuously improving payroll processes and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • End-to-End Payroll Management: Process payroll for a variety of employees, including salaries, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
  • Compliance Expertise: Ensure statutory payments (SMP, SSP), tax, National Insurance, and pension contributions are handled accurately and in line with current legislation.
  • Payroll Records: Maintain and update payroll records, ensuring all employee details are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Statutory Reporting: Create and submit payroll reports such as PAYE, NI, and pensions.
  • Payroll Queries & Support: Take the lead on payroll queries, providing expert advice and support when needed.
  • Year-End Processes: Handle starters, leavers, amendments, and year-end reconciliation with precision.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality around sensitive payroll data and employee information.
What You'll Bring
  • Experience: You'll have proven experience in a full-service payroll role, ideally within an in-house or bureau environment.
  • Payroll Knowledge: A solid understanding of payroll legislation, statutory compliance, and best practices.
  • Payroll Software Skills: Experience with payroll software such as Sage, Moneysoft, or similar (don't worry - full training will be provided).
  • Attention to Detail: You're meticulous and can manage time effectively, working well to deadlines.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills and the ability to support others with payroll queries in a clear, professional manner.
  • Bonus Points for:
  • Qualifications: CIPP or similar certification (ideal, but not essential).
  • Proactivity: A solution-focused, proactive approach with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Calm Under Pressure: You handle challenges and tight deadlines with composure.
  • Tech-Savvy: You're comfortable with payroll software, as well as Word/Excel.
