Description:
  • Location: Cambridge or Huntingdon (Hybrid)

  • Salary: £42,000-£45,000 per annum
  • Hours: 37 hours per week

Reporting at a senior level, you will take full responsibility for the monthly payroll cycle and pensions administration, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while meeting all contractual and statutory obligations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • End-to-end management of the monthly payroll, including PAYE, National Insurance and pension deductions
  • Submission of FPS/EPS returns and completion of all payroll and tax year-end activities
  • Oversight and quality-checking of payroll inputs across sickness, parental leave, absences and contract changes
  • Management of Local Government and Teachers' Pension Scheme processes, including auto-enrolment and re-enrolment duties
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for pensions queries from staff and external bodies
  • Producing statutory reports, reconciliations and month-end pension submissions
  • Liaison with HMRC, DWP and pension administrators
  • Line management of a Payroll Administrator
  • Ownership and development of the HR/Payroll system, including workflow management, reporting and user training
  • Supporting budget setting, pay forecasting and management information for Finance and senior leaders

About You

  • Proven payroll management experience in a medium-to-large organisation
  • In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation, taxation and pensions
  • Experience using complex payroll systems (iTrent / MHR experience highly desirable)
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage deadlines and operate confidently under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional, confidential approach
