12m FTC Assistant Accountant

I am currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing engineering business based in Rotherham, a company we have worked closely with over a number of years and built a strong relationship with.

They are now looking to appoint an Assistant Accountant on a 12-month fixed term contract to support the finance team during a maternity leave.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing or engineering environment and wants to gain broad exposure across month-end accounting, reporting, and transactional finance.

The Role

This position will support the day-to-day running of the finance function while assisting with monthly reporting and financial controls.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with month-end close activities,
• Preparing journals, accruals, and prepayments,
• Bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations,
• Maintaining fixed asset registers,
• VAT returns and general compliance support,
• Liaising with internal departments across operations and engineering.

About You

• Experienced within a similar role, ideally in manufacturing or engineering,
• Confident using Excel and accounting systems,
• Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills,
• Able to work independently and manage deadlines effectively,
• A proactive team player with a positive attitude.
