Financial Controller

Chalk Hill Group has been retained by a rapidly expanding services business, based in Aldershot, in their search for a Financial Controller. There will be an expectation to be in the office two days a week, with a degree of flexibility expected depending on requirements.

The business has grown turnover by 40% in the last 12 months and is targeting an additional 25% for next financial year, supported by recent investment in a new finance system and the appointment of key personnel to broaden the company's sector exposure and service offering.

The Role

Acting as No.2 to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will own day to day operations of the finance function and play a key role in supporting the business through its next phase of growth.

Key responsibilities include:

• Full responsibility for financial accounting, month-end close and statutory reporting
• Ownership of the year-end audit process and management of external auditors
• Preparation of monthly management accounts and board packs
• Leading the annual budgeting, forecasting and three-year planning process
• Cashflow management and balance sheet control
• Embedding and optimising a recently implemented finance system
• Leadership and development of the finance team
• Acting as a trusted finance partner to senior stakeholders and branches across the business

Candidate Profile

• A fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
• Practice-trained candidates making a first move into industry, or Practice-trained, qualified accountant with hands-on SME Financial Controller / Finance Manager experience
• You will be technically strong, comfortable operating in a hands-on environment, and confident providing insight and challenge at senior leadership level
• Commercially focused with an ability to translate financial data into actionable insights to support strategic decision making
• Experience in a growing SME or service-led business would be beneficial, but is not essential
