Assistant Accountant

A well-established and growing distribution business based in Barnsley is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join its finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional looking to develop their career within a fast-paced and supportive environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the finance function while working alongside an experienced and friendly team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assisting with the management of the purchase ledger function
• Preparing and posting accruals and prepayments
• Processing accounting journals and maintaining accurate financial records
• Supporting month-end close activities
• Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations
• Investigating and resolving accounting queries
• Providing general support to the wider finance team as required

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Previous experience within an accounting or finance position
• Knowledge of purchase ledger processes
• Experience preparing accruals, prepayments, and journals
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
• A positive attitude and willingness to take ownership of their workload
