The Opportunity

A well-established and growing business is looking to appoint an Assistant Accountant to join its finance team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a detail-oriented individual to gain broad exposure across transactional and management accounting, working closely with senior finance support in a fast-paced environment.

Role Overview

You will support the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring accurate financial records and contributing to the production of key financial information. The role offers a varied workload and the chance to get involved in both routine processes and ongoing improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Maintain and reconcile ledger accounts
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and prepayments
  • Carry out bank reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies
  • Manage aspects of accounts receivable, including invoicing and credit control
  • Provide support across accounts payable when required
  • Process supplier invoices and maintain effective payment processes
  • Monitor outstanding balances and liaise with customers where needed
  • Assist with payroll-related processes and reconciliations
  • Support VAT returns preparation and submission
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
  • Assist with audit preparation and year-end processes
  • Produce financial reports and analysis for internal stakeholders
  • Ensure accurate and well-organised financial documentation
  • Contribute to improving systems, controls, and finance processes

About You

  • Prior experience in a finance or accounting-based role
  • Exposure to accounting systems (ERP experience advantageous)
  • AAT qualified or working towards qualification (or equivalent)
  • Strong numerical and analytical ability
  • Confident using Excel and finance systems
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Well-organised with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A proactive team player with good communication skills
