Description: Assistant Group Financial Controller

Yorkshire Predominantly Home Based £75,000 - £95,000 + Benefits

If you enjoy the technical side of finance but don't want to spend your career hidden away producing reports, this could be worth a look.

This business has grown significantly over the last few years and now has a portfolio of more than 20 UK entities. They're looking for an Assistant Group Financial Controller to take ownership of the group consolidation process while becoming a trusted member of the wider finance leadership team.

It's a technically demanding role, but it isn't purely about month-end and statutory reporting. You'll work closely with senior leaders across the business, helping them understand the numbers, challenge performance and make better commercial decisions.

The role covers the UK business only and offers plenty of flexibility, with most people spending just two or three days a fortnight in one of the offices.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for producing accurate and timely group reporting across a complex UK group structure.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the monthly group consolidation across more than 20 legal entities

  • Preparing consolidated management accounts and supporting statutory reporting

  • Supporting the year-end audit and acting as a key contact for external auditors

  • Maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring the integrity of group reporting

  • Reviewing balance sheets and ensuring robust reconciliations across the group

  • Working with operational and senior leadership teams to provide insight into business performance

  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting and longer-term planning

  • Identifying trends, risks and opportunities within the numbers and helping turn those into meaningful actions

  • Driving improvements to reporting processes and controls

  • Supporting acquisitions and helping integrate new businesses into the group structure

About you

You'll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience working in a group finance environment.

More importantly, you'll enjoy solving problems, getting into the detail and helping people understand what the numbers are really saying.

We're likely to be speaking to people who have experience of:

  • Group consolidations across a multi-entity business, ideally 20 or more entities

  • Group reporting and statutory accounts

  • Strong technical accounting and financial controls

  • Building relationships with stakeholders outside of finance

  • Looking for ways to improve reporting and simplify processes

You could already be an Assistant Group Financial Controller, or perhaps you're a Financial Controller or Group Reporting Manager looking for a broader role with more visibility across the business.

What's in it for you?
  • £75,000 - £95,000 depending on experience

  • Predominantly home-based with only 2-3 days in the office each fortnight

  • A genuinely varied role that combines technical accounting with commercial exposure

  • Direct access to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence decision making

  • Exposure to acquisitions, integration projects and a growing group structure

  • The chance to join a collaborative finance team where you'll have the autonomy to make a real impact

This isn't the sort of role where you'll spend every day buried in spreadsheets. Yes, you'll need strong technical skills and you'll be responsible for consolidating a complex group structure, but you'll also be expected to get out from behind the numbers, build relationships with senior stakeholders and help shape the commercial decisions that drive the business forward.

If that sounds like the next step you're looking for, we'd love to have a conversation.
