Finance Officer

  • Job Type: Part-time
  • Location: Office-based
  • Working Hours: Monday & Wednesday: 8:30am to 4:30pm, Friday: 8:30am to 3:30pm (Some flexibility for the right candidate)

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Finance Officer to join our busy and supportive school finance team. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the day-to-day financial operations of our organisation, providing a varied and rewarding experience within an educational setting.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Maintain the fees ledger, including the production of termly fee bills and associated charges.
  • Process fee-related transactions and ensure accurate postings to the nominal ledger.
  • Act as the first point of contact for parent fee queries, providing timely and professional responses and working with colleagues to resolve issues.
  • Reconcile the fees ledger to the nominal ledger and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Manage bursary administration and associated financial support arrangements.
  • Take ownership of the debtors ledger, monitoring outstanding balances and following up on overdue payments.
  • Apply and administer late payment interest charges where appropriate.
  • Carry out regular bank reconciliations.
  • Administer specialist schemes, including school fee refund and private medical schemes.
  • Process government funding schemes, including Early Years Funding and EHCP funding.
  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of monthly management accounts.
  • Process staff expenses and manage petty cash and company credit card transactions.
  • Provide ad hoc finance and administrative support to the Business Director as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working within a finance role, ideally within an educational environment.
  • Experience of sales ledger, fees administration, credit control, reconciliations, and management accounts support.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • The ability to communicate confidently and professionally with parents, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a team.
