Reed Accountancy are supporting a well-established business with the recruitment of an experienced Accounts Assistant to join their finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and organised finance professional with strong Sage Line 50 experience to take ownership of a varied accounting role within a supportive and busy environment.

The successful candidate will be confident working independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team. They will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with financial deadlines, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Processing financial transactions and data entry using Sage Line 50.
• Reconciling bank, cash, and credit card accounts.
• Maintaining debtor and creditor ledgers.
• Preparing, submitting, and reconciling VAT returns.
• Posting journals, including prepayments and accruals.
• Completing full trial balance reconciliations at year-end.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant financial deadlines, including Companies House and HMRC requirements.
• Posting invoices and recording rental income received.
• Reconciling client deposits received and repaid through a dedicated deposit account.
• Monitoring and pursuing rental arrears where necessary.
• Providing general office support, including answering telephone enquiries, dealing with clients face-to-face, and filing legal and financial documentation.

Person Specification

To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally have:

• A minimum of 5 years' accounting experience.
• At least 5 years' experience using Sage Line 50.
• Strong reconciliation skills and attention to detail.
• Experience preparing VAT returns and journal postings.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• The ability to work independently using your own initiative, as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
