We are currently recruiting for an experienced Payroll Advisor for a well-established client in the Swindon area this is a fantastic opportunity if you are looking to work for an amazing organisation.

Location: £16.50 per hour

Duration: 20 hours a week

Our client is looking for an experienced and capable Payroll Advisor who can take responsibility for payroll tasks from start to finish and provide a consistently high standard of service to our clients. This is a temporary position initially with a strong possibility of becoming permanent. As the business continues to grow, there is also significant potential for the role to develop, with increased responsibility and remuneration for the right person.

Duties will include:

  • Strong payroll proficiency, with the ability to confidently manage the full payroll lifecycle, including:
    • Setting up new employees
    • Processing payrolls accurately from start to finish
    • Processing starters and leavers
    • Understanding and applying tax codes
    • National Insurance calculations and requirements
    • Processing expenses and other payroll-related adjustments
    • Identifying and resolving payroll discrepancies and queries
  • Experience or confidence in onboarding new client's mid-year, including:
    • Setting up new payrolls and transferring payroll information
    • Reviewing and checking year-to-date payroll data
    • Setting up employees accurately
    • Ensuring continuity of tax, National Insurance and other payroll records
    • Identifying missing or inconsistent information
    • Liaising with clients to obtain and clarify the information required for a successful transition
    • Checking the accuracy of the payroll following migration
  • Good workplace pension knowledge, including a sound understanding of:
    • Auto-enrolment legislation and employer duties
    • Employee eligibility and assessment
    • Enrolment, postponement and opt-outs
    • Pension contributions and their interaction with payroll
    • LGPS (The Local Government Pension Scheme) knowledge or previous experience would be highly advantageous, particularly an understanding of Local Government Pension Scheme requirements and their interaction with payroll.
  • Systems & IT Skills - Good general IT skills and confidence working with payroll and business software.
    • Previous experience of Cintra payroll software would be a significant advantage.
    • Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly: Excel, Word, Outlook/email and other standard business systems
    • Comfortable learning new software, systems and processes.

  • A high level of numerical and verbal reasoning
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Adopts an organised and methodical approach
  • Sound numeracy with the ability to prepare, analyse and manage methodically large amounts of data
  • Confidence in communicating financial information to budget holders accurately and concisely
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Intermediate-level Microsoft Office user
  • Proficiency in using financial accounting systems
