Financial Controller

Reed Finance are pleased to be partnering an Essex based SME in their search for an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to lead their finance function and support the continued growth of the business.

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you'll take ownership of financial reporting, cash flow management, controls, compliance, payroll oversight, and the development of a small finance team. This is a hands-on leadership role with significant exposure to senior stakeholders across the business.

A few key Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end process and produce accurate monthly management accounts.
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis.
• Oversee cash flow forecasting, working capital, and banking requirements.
• Ensure robust financial controls, balance sheet integrity, and statutory compliance.
• Manage the annual audit process, VAT returns, and relationships with external advisers.
• Oversee payroll, pensions, and employee benefits administration.
• Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team.
• Drive process improvements, automation, and systems enhancements.
• Partner with operational and commercial teams to provide meaningful financial insight and support decision-making.

About You

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification (or equivalent).
• Previous experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance leadership role.
• Strong financial reporting, controls, audit, and compliance experience.
• Excellent budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management skills.
• Proven experience managing and developing finance teams.
• A hands-on approach with a passion for improving processes and driving efficiencies.
• The confidence to challenge, influence, and build relationships across all levels of the business.
