EA First is working with a Not-for-Profit organisation in Birmingham to recruit a Financial Accounting Manager into its Finance, Risk and Assurance function. This is a senior technical accounting position with responsibility for ensuring robust financial reporting, statutory compliance and financial controls across a large and complex organisation. The successful candidate will also manage the finance team and play an important role in improving financial processes and controls.

The organisation combines a strong social purpose with the scale and complexity of a substantial national operation, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move from accountancy practice into a senior in house technical finance role, or for somebody who has previously trained/worked in practice and subsequently developed their career in industry or the Not-for-Profit sector.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Financial Accounting Manager will act as a key technical accounting lead for the organisation.

  • Leading the year end process and preparation of statutory financial statements, disclosures, audit and tax packs.
  • Acting as a principal contact for external auditors and managing delivery of the annual audit.
  • Ensuring statutory reporting complies with FRS102 and relevant charity regulations.
  • Taking ownership of balance sheet controls and ensuring reconciliations are completed, reviewed and appropriately resolved.
  • Leading technical accounting across fixed assets, property, land and lease accounting.
  • Managing month end processes across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, bank reconciliations and fixed assets.
  • Leading VAT compliance, including preparation and submission of VAT returns, reconciliations and providing technical VAT guidance.
  • Overseeing organisational bank reconciliations and supporting treasury and cash flow management.
  • Maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger.
  • Managing and developing members of the finance team, including oversight of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Identifying opportunities to strengthen financial systems, processes, controls and reporting.
  • Providing technical accounting advice to finance colleagues and wider stakeholders.

Financial Accounting Manager:

  • It is critical you are fully qualified ACA (ICAEW) or ACCA accountant.
  • Current or previous experience working within an accountancy practice environment is essential.
  • Strong post qualified technical accounting experience.
  • Experience of statutory accounts preparation and working directly with external auditors.
  • Strong knowledge of FRS102.
  • Excellent balance sheet reconciliation and financial control experience.
  • Strong knowledge of month end and year end accounting processes.
  • Experience of VAT compliance, ideally including more complex VAT matters.
  • Experience of bank reconciliations, cash management and/or treasury activities.
  • Experience operating within a large or complex organisation would be advantageous.
  • Previous management, coaching or development of finance colleagues.
  • Strong Excel and financial systems capability.
  • Charity SORP knowledge would be advantageous.
  • Experience of a major ERP such as NetSuite, SAP or Oracle Financials would also be beneficial.

  • £60,000 - £63,000 per annum.
