Property Loss Adjuster - Domestic & Commercial Location: South Coast and Greater London (candidates can cover one region, both, or a combination depending on location and experience) Overview: We are working with one of the UK's largest and most established loss adjusting businesses, which is continuing to strengthen its Property team across the South Coast and Greater London. They are looking for experienced Property Loss Adjusters, with the level of appointment flexible depending on technical experience. For those already handling larger or more complex losses independently, there is scope to consider a more senior position. - The role involves managing your own portfolio of domestic and commercial property losses from instruction through to settlement. Claims are varied and include escape of water, fire, flood, storm, impact, theft, malicious damage, subsidence and other insured perils, with exposure to buildings, contents, business interruption and alternative accommodation. Depending on experience, there is also the opportunity to become involved in higher value and technically complex losses.
- You will have ownership of your claims, attending site to investigate and validate losses, establish cause and extent of damage, interpret policy cover, set reserves, agree scopes of work and manage claims through to an appropriate settlement.
The business has a broad Property operation and significant scope for progression, whether that is into Senior Loss Adjusting, Major and Complex Loss, High Net Worth, Commercial Property, Subsidence, technical specialist positions or management and leadership. Role Responsibilities: - Managing a portfolio of domestic and commercial property claims from initial instruction through to settlement.
- Carrying out site inspections to establish cause, extent of damage and the appropriate claims strategy.
- Investigating and validating claims, reviewing policy wordings, schedules, endorsements and exclusions to establish indemnity and policy liability.
- Handling losses arising from escape of water, fire, flood, storm, impact, theft, malicious damage, subsidence and other property perils.
- Assessing buildings and contents damage, including alternative accommodation, loss of rent and business interruption where applicable.
- Producing detailed reports for insurer and delegated authority clients, including recommendations on liability, quantum, reserves and claims strategy.
- Setting and reviewing reserves throughout the lifecycle of the claim.
- Preparing and agreeing scopes of work, reviewing repair estimates and considering reinstatement versus cash settlement where appropriate.
- Appointing and managing surveyors, engineers, forensic investigators, restoration specialists, contractors and other experts.
- Liaising with policyholders, commercial clients, brokers and insurers throughout the claim.
- Identifying potential recovery, contribution, subrogation and fraud concerns.
- Negotiating quantum and settlement within delegated authority.
Experience: - Previous property loss adjusting experience.
- Experience handling domestic and/or commercial property claims/losses.
- Good understanding of policy wordings, indemnity, liability, quantum and the property claims lifecycle.
- Comfortable managing a caseload independently and taking ownership from instruction through to settlement.
- Confident attending site and dealing directly with policyholders, commercial clients and appointed experts.
- Higher value or technically complex loss experience would be particularly relevant for more senior appointments.
- Chartered Insurance Institute and/or Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters qualifications are advantageous, with further qualification support available.
Career Development & Package The business has a large national Property operation, giving adjusters considerable scope to develop into different claim types, values and specialisms without needing to move elsewhere to progress. There are established routes into Senior Loss Adjusting, Commercial Property, High Net Worth, Major and Complex Loss, Subsidence and technical specialist roles, alongside management and leadership opportunities. For those who want to remain technically focused, progression can also mean handling increasingly complex and higher value losses rather than moving into people management. The role offers structured technical development, professional qualification support, hybrid working and a good level of autonomy over your diary, site visits and caseload.
