Payroll Advisor

Salary: Up to £37,000
Locations: Glasgow, Aberdeen or Stirling
Working Pattern: Hybrid typically 3 days office / 2 days home
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

The Opportunity

We re looking for an experienced payroll professional to join a busy client payroll function, taking responsibility for a varied portfolio and delivering an accurate, responsive service.

This is a great next step for someone with a strong payroll bureau background who enjoys the technical side of payroll, dealing directly with clients and supporting less experienced members of the team.

What You ll Be Doing

  • Take ownership of a portfolio of client payrolls, ensuring each is delivered accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Work across more complex payrolls and investigate technical queries as they arise.
  • Review payroll information, calculations and outputs before submission to clients.
  • Complete BACS processing and key payroll control checks.
  • Keep up to date with changes to UK payroll legislation and apply these across client payrolls.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients, becoming a trusted contact for their payroll requirements.
  • Help coordinate workloads across the team during busy payroll periods.
  • Provide guidance to junior colleagues and review their work where required.
  • Maintain clear payroll procedures and client-specific process documentation.
  • Assist with payroll system updates, testing and technical projects.
  • Look for ways to streamline processes and improve the overall client experience.

What We re Looking For

  • Around 3 4 years UK payroll experience.
  • Previous payroll bureau / outsourced payroll experience is essential.
  • Good technical understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance.
  • Experience handling multiple client payrolls and competing deadlines.
  • Comfortable investigating and resolving complex payroll queries.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills.
  • Experience supporting or reviewing the work of junior colleagues would be advantageous.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach.
