Payroll & Finance Officer

Salary: £32,046 £35,570
Location: Predominantly Remote Cheshire
Office Requirement: Approx. visits per year during term time
Contract: Permanent
Systems: Civica Payroll & Xero

Key Responsibilities

• Run the end-to-end monthly payroll across 13 schools and the central team.
• Manage starters, leavers, changes, deductions and payroll adjustments.
• Liaise with HMRC and other external bodies.
• Manage Teachers Pension and Local Government Pension Scheme administration and returns.
• Ensure payroll submissions and statutory deadlines are met.
• Complete monthly payroll and budget reconciliations.
• Upload payroll costs into finance systems and investigate variances.
• Support month-end, bank reconciliations and general finance administration.
• Resolve payroll queries from employees and stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate

• Strong UK end-to-end payroll experience.
• Education/schools payroll experience is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Teachers Pension and/or LGPS would be a significant advantage.
• Confident independently owning the payroll process.
• Strong payroll compliance and HMRC knowledge.
• Civica Payroll experience advantageous but not essential.
• Xero or broader finance experience beneficial for the full-time position.
• Ideally based within approximately one hour of Cheshire for occasional office attendance.
