A well-established construction contractor with a turnover exceeding £50m is looking to recruit an Assistant Purchase Ledger to join its friendly and supportive finance team.

Based in a modern Southwark office, this is an excellent opportunity for an accounts professional to join a successful business offering a positive working environment, strong team culture and long-term career development.

The Role

The successful candidate will support the finance team with the day-to-day running of the purchase ledger function, managing a high volume of invoices and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing, matching, batching and coding a high volume of purchase invoices.
  • Assisting with weekly and monthly payment runs.
  • Reconciling supplier statements and resolving discrepancies.
  • Managing supplier accounts and responding to invoice queries.
  • Liaising with suppliers and internal teams regarding payments and approvals.
  • Managing a busy finance inbox and ensuring queries are dealt with promptly.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records using Sage 50.
  • Supporting wider finance and administrative duties as required.

Essential Experience

  • Approximately 2 3 years relevant purchase ledger experience.
  • Previous experience using Sage 50 is essential.
  • Good understanding of payment runs and invoice processing.
  • Experience handling a high volume of invoices.
  • Ideally, previous experience with supplier statement reconciliations.
  • AAT qualified, currently studying towards AAT, or working towards another relevant accounting qualification.
  • Confident communicating with suppliers and managing a busy inbox.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous debt collection experience.
  • Experience raising and processing sales invoices.

  • Able to build strong working relationships with colleagues and suppliers.
