Job description

Lloyd's is a leading specialist insurance organisation operating from its iconic headquarters in the City of London.

Lloyd's is not actually an insurance company but a society comprised of managing agents who run syndicates that underwrite specialist insurance policies on behalf of companies, governments and individuals in areas such as marine, aviation and professional indemnity insurance.

Essentially, Lloyd's operates in a fairly simple way. Brokers are requested by clients to source insurance for a particular policy and the brokers approach each syndicate to establish which syndicates will cover the risk and on what terms. The insurance is then underwritten by the members, whose capital is provided by corporate institutions, international insurance companies and by individuals.

As well as everyday insurance policies such as motor or property insurance, Lloyd's also insures more complex risks such as those associated with oil rigs, floods, terrorism and even space projects.
